2.   Tell us something about your company and your efforts to go green and be sustainable:
WesTex Document, Inc. opened it's doors in 1997 and is a office records management company. Our home base is at the Reese Technology Center in Lubbock, Texas. We operate throughout the Llano Estacado of West Texas, the Panhandle and eastern New Mexico. From Abilene, to El Paso, to Pampa, Dalhart, Clovis, Roswell and Hobbs. We are a Clean Texas Partner of the Texas Natural Resource and Conservation Commission (TNRCC). Over 250 tons of paper is shipped monthly by us directly to paper mills, not to recyclers, as part of the chain of trust process for pulping and making into new paper. As noted before, we shred over 3,000 tons of paper per year. All of our paper is kept within the United States to be recycled and made into new paper. We also recycle all of the cardboard, cardboad boxes and all other corrugated materials which arrive at our facility. On an annual basis we have consistantly recycled over 120 tons of these materials each year. Each year we destroy thousands of hard drives and send the shredded contents to a precious metals extractor to recover the gold and platinum and other metals of value.
3.   Is there anything special or unique about how you run your company that is sustainable or helps the environment?
Our company ships approximately 200 tons of paper to mills to be pulped and made back into new paper. Making just a ton of paper from recycled stock saves up to 17 trees, uses 50 percent less water, and has further savings in electricity and other resources as well. Turning out that light in the bathroom and unscrewing a few fluorescent lamp bulbs cant hurt. Our business operates out of a closed military commissary building. When the government remodeled it, three years before closing it, they put flashing over a lot of the exterior windows along the roof line. It made for a very dark warehouse requiring lights to be turned on. We removed the flashing, cleaned the windows and now never need to turn a light on during the day for the most part. We simply screened the windows to prevent birds from flying into them; breaking the windows and their necks. If you utilize software for billing customers, why not work on sending the bill by email rather than printing them out, stuffing envelopes, and paying the postal service to deliver them? Look at the paper (trees) youll save money as well as ever-increasing postage! See our article in PRISM Infocus ( http://www.prismintl.org/being-green-doesn%E2%80%99t-mean-you%E2%80%99re-a-frog )
